Public Nature - Elephant Man

Public Nature is an alternative rock band from New York City with origins in Medellin - Colombia. The band showcases gnarly basslines, thunderous drums, riffing guitars, catchy melodies and a peculiar lead singing voice. Public Nature line up came together during the fall of 2019. Lead singer and guitarist Oscar Fernando Perez hails from Colombia, bassist Curzio Aloisi from Italy and drummer Rex Fenton from Canada. At the end of 2019, they toured the United States with Richie Ramone. When the global COVID-19 pandemic halted live music, the band used lockdowns to write many tracks planned to be released in 2021 and on. The main riff of the song was written 15 years ago to fit the bass of an Orchestra that composed but was never released. After realising speeding up the tempo of the bass line would make a great rock song the search for a melody began. It wasn’t until early 2018 that a melody for a verse and a chorus came quickly together but the lyrics proved trickier. During breakfast, the line “elephant man” came to fruition and for weeks Oscar read tens of articles and watched every documentary about Elephants and even watched The Simpsons’ episode: “Bart Gets an Elephant” to finish the lyrics. All the words came together at 3 am the very same day China banned the trading of ivory setting the beginning of the end of the terrible business of poaching and killing the beautiful animal. Nevertheless, Elephant Man’s is not about elephants but about incompetent men disguised in big and beautiful suits.
